Euro Village hands over to France as next hosts

On Sunday July 1st the European Village is going close its gates. During the closing ceremony representative from the city of Kyiv will be handing over a big ball, that has been signed by all players of the “Fair Pay Arena“  in the past four weeks; among them almost all EU Ambassadors in Ukraine, box legend Vitali Klitschko and many national and international NGOs. The ball was handed over to Mr. M. Alain Remy, the ambassador of France in Ukraine. France is the next country to host Euro in 2016.

Holger Neuweger, Country Director of GIZ who has initiated the European Village in cooperation with the EU Delegation and the city of Kyiv said, that the Village had recorded some 90 000 visitors. In the eleven development topics the Village hosted about 100 conferences, presentations, and round tables with around 3.000 national and international specialists participating. Most popular events have been the European week of energy, the days of economic development, and the German national day. Almost 30 different mostly Ukrainian bands and artists have performed 78 concerts on the village stage. In the HIV and pulmonology test centre  at the village almost 1 000 people have used the opportunity to get a free HIV or  lung test.

15 tournaments of school classes and non-governmental organisations or business clubs were played in the fair Play Arena, with the French team winning the European Football Cup of Embassies. Fair Play Arena was set up to promote healthy life style and initiative that was also supported by box champion Vitali Klitschko.

According to a survey conducted among the 90 000 visitors more than 70 per cent of the interviewed guests stated that they feel much better informed about the European Union and the European Union integration process. The infrastructure of the Euro Village will be handed over to the City of Kyiv who will use it in the future for similar events. The Fair Play Arena will be handed over to the State Agency for Sport and Development.

Journalists are invited to the closing ceremony on Sunday, July 1st  from 17:00 – 17:45 at the stage of the Euro Village
